A keen eye observing human behavior and emotion. A simple voice that roots out the subtle nuance of a phrase. In today's pop climate, it shouldn't work. But this award-winning singer/songwriter makes it work.

The word "original" is over-used in the music world, but it aptly describes the music of Chris Holcombe.

Chris Holcombe's gift is combining musical and lyrical elements that on the surface shouldn't co-exist. But in 3 and a half minutes, he can make you believe that a "Just My Imagination" groove can support a Chet Baker-like voice singing songs of southern love affairs. When he sings "Stormy hands and lightning eyes" from his song Mississippi Rain, he sets the scene of a passionate romance that is soon going to spin out of control with hurricane force. "Running and smiling and drenched to the bone" indeed.

The combination of alcohol and an incendiary - most likely a cigarette - produces a captivating sight first, and an emergency situation immediately after. And the torched remains of a cushion and the arduous process of disposal are left to those who stick around. CouchFire seems to be a perfect name for this group, but not in a bad way.

CouchFire is a band with the energy of five rockers squeezed into three bodies. Chris plays lead guitar and lead vocals, Daniel mans the bass and sings, and David plays the drums and works the synth (at the same time). In this economy where employees are pressed for every ounce of productivity, CouchFire is mirroring that effect, not by design per se, but without missing a beat. All while cutting up on stage, shredding the music, and wearing sport jackets and slacks, which for some reason are always so big that their pant cuffs drag behind their shoes on stage.

2010 marks a new year and a new decade. For LocalSongwriters, this year marks a new beginning. This website sets out to one thing and do it well: to bring the experience of live music to anyone with access to the web.

In the coming months, you will gain access to places in Music City that until now were only bricks-and-mortar venues. Until now, these places, historic they may be, did not have virtual existence on the web. LocalSongwriters is truly the next best thing to see the show in person.

Many developments are happening here. It's an exciting time to be a music fan. If you haven't already, I encourage you to follow LSW on Twitter. It's the best way to stay informed of upcoming events, and I promise no fluff tweets!

Cheers.

The first LSW show has been announced

Larissa Bovetti is bringing a live show every Friday to Fairview, TN at a pizza cafe called Snappy's.
